The heritage of Irish crystal making dates back to the mid 18th century when the Penrose brothers set up their crystal factory in Waterford in southern Ireland. The inaugural Citi Open took place on outdoor hard courts in July 2011, with Nadia Petrova capturing her first title in almost three years by beating No.1 seed Shahar Peer in the final.  Located minutes from downtown Washington, DC, the CITI OPEN Tennis Championship will once again provide the area with another professional women’s tennis event and will set the stage for the US Open in September.  This International level event at College Park will attract the top calibre of women’s talent as they battle to become the Citi Open Champion.
